Stop The Sale

Workers' Center members Kit Andrews and Tina Scanlon table at the Addison County Fair to Stop The Sale of Verizon. Verizon is trying to sell off its landlines in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine because they do not want to invest in the needed new fiber optic technology. We need your help getting postcards signed to Stop The Sale. Email james@workerscenter.org if you can help us outreach around Vermont. TO learn more go to www.stop-the-sale.org

It blows my mind that the Workers' Center has to shake the bushes to get people to staff the booths in support of Verizon workers at the county fairs. Am I missing something?

I've talked to the unions, and it seems that the CWA workers in VT (about 125 people), don't want to get out and fight this fight. But the big union (IBEW) in VT has their members out beating the pavement every day. They'll have a big booth at the Champlain Valley Fair.

Good question. We should have mentioned that the work the Workers' Center is doing is complimenting and in solidarity with the work of the both of the Verizon unions, CWA Local 1400 and IBEW Local 2326. Both unions have done a tremendous amount of work over the last year, participating and mobilizing members and folks from the community for dozens of events. Now is the final push. We have already gotten over a dozen VWC members canvassing at county fairs, farmers markets, music festivals and most recently, at the Bennington Battle Day Parade. Especially Labor Day weekend, we could use all the help we can get. If you can help out, email james@workerscenter.org
